For several months she was also a student of Ema Destinová, then studied singing with Hilbert Vávra for two years. From 1935 until 1956 she performed as a soloist at the Metropolitan Opera in New York. In 1946 she visited post-war Czechoslovakia, which she opened with a gala concert at the National Theater, then returned to her homeland in 1947, when she went on a concert tour. In 1947, she also starred in the anti-war US-Swiss film called The Recorded, (directed by Fred Zinneman), filmed in Switzerland and Germany, which was later nominated for an Oscar.
